Alex Honnold is a pioneer of freesolo rock climbing - that means no ropes, no gear. When Squarespace learned Honnold also happened to be a customer they enlisted him – along with fellow climber and National Geographic photographer Jimmy Chin – to help communicate how their redesigned website templates help users also reach new heights.
Alex’s video was uniquely difficult to shoot, for a variety of reasons. The physical difficulty of Alex’s free soloing meant there was only one opportunity to capture the needed footage. For the clip, Alex chose to climb a famously-picturesque Yosemite route nicknamed “Heaven.” Before the shoot, it had only been freeclimbed twice—once by climber Dean Plotter, and once by Alex himself.
The resulting docu-style videos, which include a 30-second version which debuted during the World Series, overlap Alex’s harrowing footage and the powerful Squarespace message, “Start here. Go Anywhere.”
