It's been said if you want to see the rise of Southern hip-hop in the 2000s there's only one lens to look through: Zach Wolfe's.
Born and raised in small-town Iowa, Zach may seem like an unlikely documenter of some of hip-hop's heaviest hitters, including Andre 3000, Three Six Mafia, Lil Wayne, Big Boi, T.I. and Birdman. But Wolfe isn’t the typical photographer — he’s a music lover first, photographer second — and his understanding of the South's rap scene is infused in his images, chronicling the movement and personalities in a way few other artists can.
Zach's work has been featured in Billboard, FADER and The Source, and his knowledge of urban culture and strong portrait work has translated into successful campaigns for the FDA, Atlanta Hawks, and Krave, among others. Whether capturing hip-hop's greatest, Atlanta's up-and-comers or Cuba's vibrant culture, Zach's success centers around a fearlessness to immerse himself in his surroundings, producing photos that are raw, real and always true to the subject.
